Born in Odessa, raised in Coney Island, no formal training. He worked whatever jobs he could from the age of sixteen — burgers, pizza deliveries, Wall Street. At twenty-two he quit and started painting.

Those early paintings sold. People wanted to own them but couldn't afford originals, so he started putting the work on t-shirts. That's how SSUR was born — his signature written in reverse, with a nod to the USSR and his own origins.

What followed was work that pulled from Cold War imagery, revolutionary iconography, drug cartel culture, and pop culture subverted beyond recognition — the Rolex crown flipped, Cornelius from Planet of the Apes reborn as Che Guevara, Comme des Fuckdown everywhere. Collaborations with Supreme, Stüssy, Converse, MEDICOM. Since the 80s. No formal training, no blueprint, no interest in following anyone.
